MFA Instructions - Register for Multifactor Authentication
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an additional step for verification to enhance security for O365 apps and services. This protects your credentials from being used without your authorization by requiring either a phone call, text message, or Authenticator App approval. When signing into O365 – for example, Word, Teams, Outlook, or Office.com – you will be prompted to use this secondary login method to confirm you are who you say you are for each device you use to log in. You may choose to have authentication remembered for 7 days.
- IT recommends first downloading the Authenticator App by searching for and installing Microsoft Authenticator from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store on a CS issued or personal phone or tablet.
- Open a web browser and go to https://aka.ms/MFASetup
- Sign in with CS email and password. Click Next on More information required screen.
- Click the dropdown to select the Mobile Authenticator App.
-
IT recommends the App as described in Step 1 above.
- There are two methods to approve sign in requests using the App:
Receive notification: Get a notification message, approve or deny in the App.
Use verification code: Input the passcode generated in the App.
- Click Set up to open the Configure Mobile App screen (shown below).
-
Open the App on your phone and Add a Work or School account.
-
Scan the QR Code by holding your phone to the screen and centering the image. Or you may input the passcode shown on screen.
- After setting up the App, you will be prompted to set up a phone number to use as a backup in case you cannot access the App.
- If you would prefer to not use the App, Authentication Phone allows you to sign in by receiving a text message passcode. Be advised, this is not the recommended method.

You are configured for MFA! Now when you sign into O365 apps and services, you will see the following notification:

Approve the authentication using the preferred method you configured. You can check the box Don’t ask again for 3 days to suppress sign in prompts for the next 3 days when using that app or service. However, please note that you will be prompted to authenticate using MFA each time you sign in to office.com through a different device for the first time, i.e., mobile device, laptop, conference room/team room computer, home computer, etc. You will need your MFA phone or tablet each time you are prompted to authenticate.
To turn off Fingerprint/PIN prompt on the Authenticator App:
- Tap the Three Lines in the top left.
- Tap Settings > turn off App Lock.
