When you install Outlook as a PWA (Progressive Web App), you turn the Outlook Web service into a stand-alone "app" on your local machine. This enables you to launch Outlook for web without having to open a browser. PWAs include better caching, notification, and background functionality, can still be used while you are offline, provide push notifications while online, and access your local machine's hardware.
